Sunless Spray Tanning

  • What is spray tanning?

    The Mystic Tan, VersaSpa and VersaPro booths are private, self-contained units that, in just seconds, employ a revolutionary spray process to apply a uniform amount of tanning mist to the entire body. Spray Tanning solutions use the human body's own magnetic properties to attract tanning solution to every exposed surface of the skin. When the tanning session is complete, you simply step out of the booth, towel off any excess tanning mist, dress and exit. The result is an even, natural-looking tan.   • What should I wear in the spray tan booth?

    Most sunless tanners don't wear clothes in the booth. However, if you'd be more comfortable wearing a bathing suit or underwear, be advised that the tanning solution may stain. We also have disposable undergarments available for purchase.

  • Should I cover my hair while spray tanning?

    Many customers wear a disposable shower cap, provided by the salon, to keep the tanning solution from getting into their hair. Other customers tan without covering their hair. The Mystic Tan Tanning mist does not penetrate the hair follicle. The Insta-Color Bronzer we use in our BronzMyst is water-soluble and will easily wash out.

  • How do I towel off after my spray tan session?

    The tanning solution applied in the tanning booth is moist and very fine. Your skin will feel hydrated and nourished. Tiny droplets remaining on your arms or legs after the session are easily removed by toweling dry. Toweling won't streak your tan, and any tanning solution that wipes onto the towel is excess and will not affect your tan. Slightly blot your skin with the towel to remove any excess solution.

  • How quickly can I get dressed after a spray tan session?

    Once you've towel dried, there's little chance of any bronzer or DHA getting on your clothes. If you perspire soon after your sunless tanning session, some of the bronzer may transfer to your clothing. Since the bronzer is completely water-soluble, it will wash out.

  • How long should I wait after a tanning session before showering?

    To give the DHA enough time to fully set, we recommend waiting a minimum of 4 hours after tanning. Showering sooner may diminish the intensity of the tan. If you tanned using a bronze boost, it will wash off in the shower, but the DHA that creates your longer-lasting tan will remain.

  • Does the spray tan leave a smell on my skin?

    Some people notice a slight starchy smell on their skin a few hours after a tanning session. This is simply the DHA reacting to proteins in your skin and it fades away fairly quickly.

  • Will swimming affect my tan?

    Swimming in chlorinated water or salt water can fade your results, cause possible streaking and will diminish the length of your tan. However, normal activities such as bathing, showering or physical activities will not affect the quality of the tan.

Sunbed Tanning

  • I don't tan outdoors. Will I be able to tan in a bed?

    If you can't get color from the sun, you can't get color in a sunbed. However, our Sunless Spray Tanning System can give you a natural-looking tan without any UV exposure at all.

  • Do I have to wear eye protection?

    Yes, it is required by law in most states because eyelids are not thick enough to protect your eyes from UV damage. We provide FDA-approved eyewear at no charge in each tanning room as well as clear goggles in the Mystic Rooms. Learn more about the Golden Rules of Tanning

  • What should I wear in the tanning bed?

    Since each tanning bed is in a private room, you can wear whatever you're most comfortable in – or nothing at all.

  • How do I know the beds are clean?

    We use FDA-approved cleaning and disinfecting solutions after every customer's tanning session. The store manager will be happy to show you our cleaning logs. The solution is tested daily to ensure proper sanitizing properties exist.

  • How often do you change the bulbs in each bed?

    We follow the manufacturer's guidelines for bulb replacement so that you will achieve the best results from your sessions. We typically change our bulbs when they have reached 80% of their capacity so your tan doesn't suffer from weaker UV rays.

  • What are the different membership levels at Planet Tan?

    You can tan at Planet Tan one of the following ways:

    2. Stay & Save™ Program - Stay & Save™ freezes your membership, securing your current membership pricing and Premier Status.
    3. Flex Membership - If you'd like to pay your membership in cash, instead of deducting it from your account, you can pay each month as a Flex Member. Prices vary by salon. Please check with your local salon for more information.

  • How do I sign up for a membership?

    Signing up for a membership is easy! Stop by any of our locations, fill out a short information form and get started on your golden glow, today! Find the salon location nearest you!

  • What if I need to put my membership on hold?

    Joining our Stay & Save™ program is a great way to temporarily freeze your membership and keep earning rewards. Learn more

  • I want to cancel my membership. How do I do that?

    You may cancel your membership by visiting any Planet Tan salon where you're a member. Your Premier Rewards™ status cancels until you reactivate your membership. When you reactivate your Premier Membership, your level of benefits begins from zero. The last day for cancellations is the 25th of each month. For more information, see our Cancellations section.

  • How do I resolve a membership billing issue or submit a question?

  • What is the last day of the month to make changes to my account?

    The last date to make a change to your account is the 25th of the month.

  • What day does automatic billing take place?

    The 1st of every month, or if the 1st falls on a weekend or holiday, the following business day.

  • Can I change the automatic billing date?

    No, the draft date is the 1st of every month for all Planet Tan salons.

  • How do I change the account that my membership is being billed to?

    The account can be changed by visiting any Planet Tan location that is convenient for you. Find yours now.

Stay & Save™ Program

  • What is Stay & Save™?

    Stay & Save™ freezes your membership, securing your current membership pricing and Premier Status. During that time, we will bill your Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) account a monthly fee of $7.50, which accumulates in an account as tan dollars for you to use later for lotions, upgrades, or other products. Tan dollars are non-refundable and are not applied to any monthly drafts. Tan dollars expire one year from the date of cancellation or reactivation. Please note, the last day to put your account on Stay and Save™ for following months, is the 25th of the month. Subject to Federal Tan Tax.

  • How can I put my account on Stay & Save™?

    ·You can enroll in Stay & Save™ by visiting any Planet Tan salon within the city where you're a member. Please note: Premier members do not receive benefits/rewards while on Stay & Save™.

  • Can I tan while on Stay & Save™?

    Yes, discounted tanning sessions are available on Stay & Save™.

  • Will I have to pay a start-up fee when I resume tanning?

    No, there is no start-up or enrollment fee to resume tanning after Stay & Save™. Your Premier status will be reactivated based upon a pro-rated reactivation price, which is determined by the level of membership you have and the day you reactivate.

  • Do I keep my original monthly membership fee when I resume tanning?

    Yes, your monthly membership rate stays the same after reactivating your account.
    Please note: The last day for online Stay & Save is the 23rd of each month.

  • What is the last day of the month to make changes to my account?

    The last date to make a change to your account is the 25th of the month.
    Please note: The last day for online Stay & Save requests is the 23rd of each month. The last day for in-store cancellations is the 25th of each month.

Cancellations & Returns

  • How can I cancel my membership at the end of any month?

    You may cancel your membership by visiting any Planet Tan salon where you're a member. Your Premier Rewards™ status cancels until you reactivate your membership. When you reactivate your Premier Membership, your level of benefits begins from zero. The last day for cancellations is the 25th of each month.

  • How do I apply for a refund or cancel my membership under your 30-day money-back guarantee?

    If you decide to cancel your membership with Planet Tan within 30 days from the date of purchase, Planet Tan will refund to you the amount you paid for your membership minus the sessions used. The tanning session cost will be calculated at the lowest rate available based on the time and the number of sessions used. You will receive a refund within 15 business days.

  • Can I return or exchange a tanning lotion that I have purchased?
    1. The tanning or skin care lotion must be returned within seven (7) days of purchase from Planet Tan.
    2. The lotion must be at least ¾ full, or we will be unable to exchange or refund its original value.
    3. The lotion exchange/refund must be conducted by a Planet Tan manager or assistant manager.
    4. The lotion will be exchanged for in-store credit in the form of a membership upgrade, another retail product(s) or a sunless spray session(s) of equal value.
    5. No cash refund or in-store credit will be made for lotion sample packets.
